Copy dentures, also known as duplicate dentures, are new dentures created using your existing denture as a reference. They aim to replicate familiar features such as the shape, size and positioning of the teeth, while allowing your clinician to consider improvements to fit, strength, comfort and appearance.
Over time, you may become accustomed to the feel of your dentures, even if they are worn or no longer fit as well as they once did. A conventional replacement can sometimes require a period of adjustment if the shape of the denture or the position of the teeth changes.
The copy denture technique uses your existing denture as a starting point, which may help reduce disruption and preserve aspects of your familiar smile. Your clinician will assess your individual needs and explain whether this approach is suitable for you.
We’ll discuss your dental history, current dentures, expectations and any concerns you have. This is your opportunity to ask questions and understand your options before deciding how to proceed.
Using your existing denture as a reference, we’ll take impressions using the appropriate copy denture technique. This can help capture its shape and bite relationship. Your current denture can be returned to you following this appointment, depending on the technique used.
A wax try-in allows you to preview the appearance of your new dentures before they are completed. You can discuss the colour, shape and size of the teeth with your clinician and request changes where appropriate. Additional appointments may be required if alterations are needed.
Once your dentures are ready, your clinician will fit them and make any necessary adjustments. A review appointment may be arranged, often around two weeks later, to check how you are getting on and provide any aftercare advice you need.
Our patients don’t just leave with new teeth, they leave with renewed confidence, comfort, and joy.
Every smile tells a story, and every transformation reminds us why we do what we do. From first-time denture wearers to those finally finding the right fit after years of discomfort, these are just a few of the journeys we’ve been proud to be part of.
Copy dentures may be particularly beneficial if you have adapted well to your existing dentures and would prefer to retain familiar features. They may also be worth considering if your dentures are worn, loose or uncomfortable, or if you would like a spare set. Your clinician will assess whether this approach is suitable for you.
This depends on the copy denture technique used and your individual treatment requirements. The time can vary from around an hour to 24 hours. Your clinician will explain what to expect before treatment begins.
Not necessarily. The overall cost depends on your individual requirements and the work involved. Although the technique differs from a conventional denture-making process, the clinical and laboratory work may be comparable. We’ll discuss the costs with you before proceeding.
No. Copy dentures are new dentures made using your existing denture as a reference. A reline involves adjusting the tissue-facing surface of your existing denture to accommodate changes in your gums and underlying bone. Your clinician can explain which option may be appropriate for you.
